Let's give this another go!

I've always loved the idea of blogging as a way to fill my time, but somehow I've never got past the first post. I'm determined to give this another go whilst I'm at home over summer and have plenty of spare time.

I thought I'd start with a few posts of some things I've bought recently, since that's something easy to write about!

Yesterday I popped out shopping with my mum. I actually really like going shopping with my mum, as we're both pretty quick in shops - I don't like to linger! It's also good as she gives me honest opinions and picks out things I'd never look at alone (sometimes good, sometimes not so good!). I first went to Superdrug where I picked up a nail polish that mum and I had seen and liked a few days before:
The colour is 30. Ice Queen and it was £2.99. It's a really delicate shimmer, with very fine glitter which seems to me to sparkle pink, green and silver. See below for a photo of it on my nails too! It's a lovely colour and I think it'll make a really nice top coat.

Next I went in to Accessorize as I wanted a few new necklaces and saw they had a sale online. They didn't have most of the ones I'd seen online unfortunately but I did pick out two:
The first was a silver chain with little red triangles attached to it and was £5 in the sale. It's actually quite long, for a pendant necklace. I'm planning on wearing it to work with a plain black shirt - I work in a pub and like to go plain and smart with my clothes and then add a bit of personality with a necklace!
The second necklace was £7.50 in the sale and is a chunky snake necklace with gold balls, white balls and pastel blue and purple balls. They had this in two other colour schemes I think, although I can't remember the colours off the top of my head. I chose this one as I liked the pastel colours most. I wore this today with an light, open neck white shirt and was really happy with how it looks on.
Finally, I bought some earrings from Accessorize too:
These came in a pack of three for £4. Since I've got a few gold necklaces now and wanted some new gold earrings to wear with them. I went with these as they're simple shapes and will go easily with the different necklaces I have. In the top photo you can also see my new nail polish on!

The last place I went was Claire's accessories - which felt a bit strange to go into age 22. I wanted to get some replacement belly bar balls as I'm always loosing them, particularly when I wear high waisted things! They didn't have any plain silver ones, but I decided to buy a pack of new bars instead. I've got a bar with a gem on already, but the bottom one is huge and looks a bit tacky. I found these with small gems, both top and bottom which I thought were much more subtle:
There's one missing which has teal gems as I'm wearing it now:
They're perhaps a bit long for my piercing, but I like them all the same.

So that's everything I bought the other day. All a bit random but I'm happy with it all.

I have an order from Boohoo coming in a few days that I may blog about if I'm happy with what I got. Until then!

Germany + exam results!

After a bit of a weird and poorly organised start Germany has actually turned out to be quite good. The lab I'm working in is working on isolating new transcription factor binding sites within plant pathogen response genes so it's all pretty interesting and I'm learning lots about how research labs actually work.
The town is pretty, but is a little bit boring now I've been here for 3 weeks since there isn't a lot to do.

So far I've also ventured to Hannover (to the zoo and the shops) and also to Goslar, which is a nice small historic town near Braunschweig.

This weekend I'm off to Berlin which should be really good!

I also got my exam results today! Ended up doing so so so much better than I expected and finished second year with a 2:1 at 67.5% average. After a bit of a rough time last year and some less than proud moments I'm actually so happy that I chose Bath and really really proud of how I've done. Roll on placement in September!

Road trip!!

After a lot of faffing about in the morning I finally plucked up the courage to brave the motorway on my own yesterday. I have been driving for almost 3 years now, but where I live there isn't any need to get onto a motorway. I was quite nervous, but it actually turned out to be completely fine and I actually enjoyed it! Sat navs are definitely a God send!
I actually drove all the way to Ipswich for a friend's BBQ before she leaves to go to New Zealand for a year. She lives on a farm so we walked around that for a bit, she has some very cute and funny animals!
I'm really glad I went and even more glad that I ended up driving! I feel like I've properly bonded with my new car now!

Travel goodies :)

Pantene shampoo and conditioner travel bottles, Solait sun cream, Simple Oil balancing face wash, Simple face wipes, Simple Oil balancing moisturizer, Nivea roll on travel deodorant, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, Orange travel shower gel.

So I decided not to take a lot with me to Germany initially and this is what I've got to take so far. Since I'm staying for 6 weeks I thought it would be easier to just pick up a bigger shampoo and shower gel there (hopefully!!). It was 3 for £3 or something in Superdrug, so I got the 2 hair things and the shower gel and then also the roll on deodorant. I'm not actually a fan of roll on at all, but I think this smaller one goes further than the travel size aerosol does and it smells quite nice so I went for that instead.

The Simple face wipes I've used before and come back to, because there was a buy one get one free offer on (I got another packet too), but the face wash and moisturizer are new to me. I always had bad skin as a child/teenager and now I've hit 20 it has finally started clearing up a bit and I only ever get a few small spots, not the massive break outs I was used to. My skin had been really good at university, but now I'm back at home and working at McDonald's again (kill me now) it has got all oily and disgusting from the greasy air and from the make up that I've been wearing to work. I did have an Elemis oil balance matte moisturizer as a tester from a magazine and loved it, but as a student it was far too expensive for me to purchase the full product so I stumbled upon this moisturizer instead. It does seemsto have tamed my oiliness a bit - especially in combination with the face wash (which is really nice and gentle and leaves you feeling clean and fresh). I like that the moisturizer dries nice and quickly, so I'm not waiting around for ages to put make up on. A little seems to go a long way with the moisturizer, whereas the opposite is true for the face wash. I've not had it long and gone through quite a bit. It isn't a foaming wash, so I think that is why you maybe have to use a bit more of it. I do really like them though!

Finally, I also got the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in vanilla since I'd heard such good things about it. I have an Estee Lauder foundation which is my favourite, but I didn't really want to take that on holiday as it is a very full coverage and not really necessary. I also need to save it up for my brother's wedding in August!! I like the smooth finish of the foundation, and also how nicely it goes on - it even smells great too! I think it has a nice light coverage, which is good now I am quite happy with my skin. I think I need to give it a few more tries, and I can't exactly rave about it, but it is a nice, light product.

First post!

Hi!

So writing a blog is a little weird for me, but here goes.
I'm now on my "summer holidays" away from uni and am soon off to Germany for 6 weeks so I thought I would start writing this for people to have a look at what I'm up to. I guess it will be mainly about what I'm taking out there, what I'm doing and how I'm getting on.

I'm quite nervous about going away for so long to Germany. I did learn the language as a child, but stopped over 4 years ago - wow that makes me feel old! Hopefully it should be nice and exciting though, and I am looking forward to learning a bit more German. What's worrying me most is getting around the airport on my own! I have been to Heathrow before, but it isn't really the part of the holiday that you remember is it? Haha, oh well I'm sure I'll get there! I bloody better after all that it's cost me. It is exciting to be flying again though, I love going on planes and I'm going with BA so it should be nice and comfortable.

Until next time,
